Student Diversity National Mentorship Program

What is this program?

The purpose of this program is to mentor Canadian youth of diverse backgrounds to help ease their transition from high school to higher education, and to consider Queen’s for their post-secondary education. To ensure that students obtain the best and most comfortable experience possible, we will be grouping the mentees and mentors based on similar interests, values, and experiences. The mentors will be Queen’s University students and mentees will be high school students from the ages of 14-18 in Kingston and Greater Toronto Area.

What being a mentor means

  • Being a friend and role model to their mentee(s)

  • Our mentors are deeply invested in the personal and character development of their mentee(s)

  • Mentors should encourage and push their mentee(s) to adopt positive academic habits and make sure to track their academic growth

Why be a mentee?

  • Build a support group: post-secondary institutions can be intimidating. Mentees can feel confident knowing they have a support group every step of the way

  • Gain valuable advice: our mentors have been in your position! They can use their experience to provide important advice to achieve success at the post-secondary level

  • Be prepared: students who become mentees will be more prepared, both socially and academically
