Our Initiatives

Ontario Universities Fair

The Ontario Universities Fair provides students with a chance to discover and learn about Queen’s Student Diversity Project along with what our goals as a club are. It allows many students from diverse places and backgrounds to explore clubs within many different universities, gain an understanding of how these clubs are run, and most importantly, how they can become an exceptional member of a club! At Queen’s Student Diversity Project, we encourage many different students from diverse backgrounds and experiences to study at Queen’s, and we love getting to know students through this event!

The Catalogue

At Queen’s University, The Catalogue is an event that aims to showcase diversity on campus along with many of the student interactions that take place. This can include a photoshoot of students within the Queen’s Campus as well as  interviews with students about diversity within their communities, both in and out of the Queen’s community. This allows students to engage in discussions surrounding diversity on campus as well as appreciate the diversity at Queen’s University. Many different aspects of the Queen’s community are showcased, such as residences and students within various programs!

Diversity Speaks

Diversity Speaks is an online forum which gives students the opportunity to speak about what diversity means to them as well as their experiences coming from diverse backgrounds. Submissions from students can be made on Instagram, Facebook or through email with the link that is provided. This event is also promoted through social media, giving it as much exposure as possible so many students can participate in it. Responses will also be posted on Queen’s Student Diversity Project’s social media, giving students the option to remain anonymous or be featured!

Queen’s in the Park

A great event held at Lower City Park, where students can get a chance to meet with and speak to members from many different clubs here at Queen’s University. Representatives from Queen’s Student Diversity Project will have their own table in the park, and are always excited to meet and connect with people from different backgrounds and interests! Students can learn about incredible upcoming initiatives, have questions answered, as well as partake in a fun game held in the park. This is a great event to not only meet lots of great people but also spend some much needed time outdoors!

Diversity Speaks Conference

The Diversity Speaks Conference is a larger scale event which immerses people in the topic of intersectionality in academics as well as diversity at Queen’s University. This conference is orientiented towards providing high school students with a look into Queen’s, and presenting Queen’s as a welcoming space for students from diverse backgrounds. Not only will people be able to participate in this awesome event, but Queen’s Student Diversity Project will also be running live-streams on both our Instagram and Facebook during the event, for anyone unable to make it. Make sure you tune in!

Join the Discussion

An event held by Queen’s Student Diversity Project for the first time on June 13th, 2020 on Zoom. This online forum aimed to discuss how students at Queen’s University can act as leaders to raise awareness on anti-racism, allyship and the Black Lives Matter movement. This forum consisted of a panel of guests, including clubs at Queen’s University, alumni and faculty members discussing what they are doing to promote and raise awareness on the injustices faced by minority communities, and answered questions by guests as well. A fundraiser was also hosted, and all proceeds went to the Ontario Black History Society and the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund.
